Driveway Alarm Systems

Wireless Driveway alarm systemAn alarm system of any kind is always very useful. It not only discourages an intruder, but also warns you of an arrival. The purpose of an alarm is protection. This device is especially useful when situated in a remote area. If you use a driveway alarm, in case of an intrusion, you have enough time to prepare for your defence. Sometimes, intruders will be taken aback by the activation of lights in the driveway and alarm sound. All these make the driveway alarms, very useful.

Types

Driveway alarms are of two types, namely wired and wireless. The wireless alarms make use of sensors. They may be infrared or magnetic. The sensors are placed in areas which need protection. On triggering a sensor, a message will be relayed to the receiver. The receiver is you, inside the house. Once the sensor is triggered, you can start preparing for your defence. You can also set the driveway alarm to activate emergency alarms and lights. They can be used to automatically start a camera. For senior citizens or for patients inside the house, the alarm can be set to call a pre-arranged phone number as movements for these people are restricted. In this way, help will be always ready for them in case of an intrusion.

Cameras in the alarm system can be a little expensive. The addition is however worth providing consideration. On triggering the sensor, it activates the camera by sending a signal to the receiver. Once activated, the camera will record the invasion.

If you hire a security agency for monitoring your system, then in case of an intrusion, it will swing into action immediately.

Advantages of Alarm systems

  • They are easy to install and are portable.
  • The location of the alarm system can be changed constantly.
  • They can be kept in a way that no invader will know the location of the alarm.

Points to remember

While installing a wireless alarm system, the following points must be considered:

  • For the sensor to be triggered, the receiver and the sensor must be at a close proximity. The distance is different for different alarm systems.
  • When there are obstacles in your path like trees, buildings etc a long range system must be considered.
  • The outside unit must be able to work in conditions like fog and rain. That is, it must be weatherproof.
  • Infrared and magnetic are the two types of sensors. While infrared is triggered by movement, heat triggers a magnetic sensor. The decision between the two depends on the security type. It is also a matter of personal choice.
  • Alarms can be set such that they do not trigger if the object weighs less than forty pounds.
  • There are alarm systems that allow multiple sensors to be used so that every possible entry point can be covered.

Set your priorities before choosing an alarm system. You should decide on what you want your alarm system to do. Conduct a thorough research before selecting the right model.
