One of the most inexpensive ways of buying peace of mind is by installing a wireless CCTV system. It can keep an eye on your house when you are at work or away from home. You can watch your kids and their antics when you are in your office. It can be mounted at places like your yard, every likely entry points of your home, doors and windows and even your baby’s play room.

Depending on your requirement, you can mount a single camera or multiple cameras with complicated networks. Wireless security camera systems are not only inexpensive, but also easy to install. A battery operated CCTV camera can be placed anywhere as per your wish.

Choosing a security system:

When buying a CCTV camera system, you must look for the following:

1. Frames per second- There are wireless CCTV cameras available that record many frames per second (FPS). 30 FPS is actually close to real time. Recording the happenings and movements of the whole day is unnecessary and takes a huge amount of storage space. 30 FPS is therefore not necessary. 6 FPS is normally enough for monitoring.
2. Color vs. Black and white- Black and white videos lack definition. They also are poor in video quality and clarity. The videos recorded using black and white CCTVs look washed out. Color is clearer and you can see things very well. However, when it comes to outdoor wireless CCTV systems, black and white is suggested.

3. Resolution- While shopping for a television set, you look for one with a higher resolution. Same is the case with CCTVs. Better resolution means a better picture. The wireless home security systems that deliver about 500 lines of resolution are the better ones. There are some that deliver 300 lines of resolution. On choosing a higher resolution, you can see well. It is like comparing a standard definition TV with a high definition one.

4. Recorded video or direct view- If you want to review your video after a while, you can use the record video option. It can also be used as a piece of evidence later. For recording, you will have to install a system that also includes a digital video recorder (DVR) or a video tape recorder (VCR). For watching the happenings of your home or office real time, opt for direct view.

5. Wired vs. wireless- A wired security system needs cables to be installed. There will be cables running around the walls and they need a lot of drilling and hammering. Wireless systems are comparatively much easier. It is much easy for installation. They can also be placed anywhere inside or outside the house. You can easily install them yourself.
