Alarm systems having a hard wire running from the sensing unit situated outdoors to the monitor indoors are wired driveway alarms. However, they are uncomfortable. The wire runs all the way through your house and garden. Therefore, many believe this to be a hassle. Yet, they are preferred among people owing to its stability.
Installing a driveway alarm in a house under construction does not cost much. However, if you are installing it in an already built home, then, the cost of buying wires have to be borne by you. If your house has a mole problem then you will have to bear the cost of a conduit as well. Since the wired model is not portable like a wireless one, the positioning and installation has to be done precisely. It is a one-time installation as you do not want to go through the trouble of drilling and hammering once again.

Basic features like camera activation when alarm gets tripped or opening the gate when a visitor arrives are available in almost all basic driveway alarm systems. However, nowadays, there are advanced wireless models with improved functions and features available which most people prefer.

Intercom
It is a wireless driveway alarm system. You can listen to the sensor when it gets triggered. You can talk to the person who triggered the alarm by transmission of your visitor’s and your voice to and fro. This helps you know the visitor before he is let in. The gate can be opened remotely.

Camouflage
This is the best way to catch an intruder, unaware. It is a concealed security system that can be easily installed. There are driveway alarms available that can be camouflaged. They can be hidden in garden and lawn objects like bird baths, bird houses, lawn lights etc.

Hand-held monitor
If you have a huge home with a huge lawn, hand-held monitors are very useful. They are like mini radio sets or transistors. You can walk around and roam in your entire house and talk to the visitor. You do not have to go the place where your monitor is installed whenever there is an arrival. This is of great advantage when you have security personnel guarding your home.
