has been a dramatic rise in home burglaries in the past couple of years. The poor economy and increasing rate in crime in general are all contributing factors. Burglaries have also recieved alot more attention from the media in the past few years as well. Although a few crimes get solved, the majority of burglaries go unsolved giving rise to the demand of having a good security system installed in peoples homes.

A good security system or burglar alarm system can be quite expensive, especially the monitored systems , however there are a few measures one can take without spending a fortune on a good home security system. This is not to say that a home owner should use these measures that I am about to mention as a replacement for a home alarms system , but as additional preventative measures.

Some of the things a home owner can do to protect his / her property is to keep an inventory of the most valuable assets and label them in a conspicuous fashion. For example, labeling your possesions with UV pen ,placing your  signature on the object, taking photographs, and even videos of your possesions is a good way to track any of your stolen property if it ends up in a pawn shop or is being sold on the black market . This makes it much easier for the authorities to claim your stolen property, and much more difficult for a burglar to explain why the goods are in his possesion in the first place.

Howver there is no substitute for having a good burglar alarm system installed in your dwelling. It is obviously better to thwart a burglary before it happens than trying to track down and reposses your property once its already stolen.

There are many different types of burglar alarms systems and home alarms systems on the market, ranging from basic door security, do it your self systems to full blown professional monitored home surveillance systems with 12  point security, perimiter scanning and surveilance cameras.

There are many factors to consider when purchasing the right burglar alarms system. If your are a home owner then the there is the option of having a 24/7 monitored system that can alert the proper authorities when a burglary occurs, ensuring peace of mind when you are away. If you rent then there is the option for a DIY or do it yourself home alarms system that is fairly easy to install and can be purchased at any local hardware store.

Another good tip is to put stickers on your windows and doors or put signs up in your yard announcing that you are the owner of a burglar alarm system, even if you don`t own a home alarms system, the thief will not know that. This in itself is a great deterrent for break and entries.

You can also call your local police dept and ask about neighborhood watch programs, they will provide you with a sign that you can place in your window to alert any possible theif that you are surveying the neighborhood for any conspicuous activity.

All in all there are quite a few good measures for preventing a theft and protecting your property and insuring your safety.
